This is the house I stayed in. It was built sometime around the 1840's. Her family had lived in the more lush area of the island before that, but had been cleared - not off the island, as so often happened - but just down to the rocky bit. This happened a lot in Ìle. It is interesting - and sad - to hear these stories of the clearances, and to realise how long they went on.
