Kilmartin Glen Field trip!

Wow! I don't know where to begin. The field trip was definitely as exciting as I was anticipating. It was also a beautiful day! No rain at all, just sunshine and a fresh, strong breeze.

The first stop on our trip was Achnabreck, where there is rock-art, dating somewhere from the Neolithic period to the early Bronze Age (4,000 BC to 2,500 BC). The style of these carvings is called cup-and-ring.

Some interesting things that we learned here was that in Scotland the rock art is usually if not always abstract. In Scandinavia and other places where similar examples are found, there are boats or people depicted, but in Scotland they are abstract designs.

Also, all these were carved with stone implements: not chiseled, but made with peck marks.
